Why did you buy a Trail 125?

TBH, I've never used a helmet lock before. In my hometown if you did, your helmet strap was usually cut off by some a**hole passing by, and helmets there were more expensive than they are in the USA. So this was the first time I've actually used a helmet lock.
  1. Underneath your seat, there's a 5mm allen key. Mine's got some tape around it to make it easier to lift out.
  2. Use that to open the toolbox (counterclockwise = open)
  3. Inside there is the cable for your helmet.
  4. You can either pass it through the d-clip of your helmet and then pass it under the wire, or do it as three separate steps. I do it as 3 separate steps because I can't see what I'm doing if I do it as 1. YMMV.
    1. First loop under the end.
    2. Free end through the D-clip of your helmet.
    3. Second loop under the end of the clip
  5. Close the seat.
Once the seat is closed, the helmet is attached to the bike. See attached photos (numbers align with above list) for a demonstration. It's also in the owner's manual under "Storage equipment" although it is light on details.
Wow, thanks for the detailed instructions! I’ve never seen or used a cable style helmet lock so didn’t know what it was and thought I was going to need to buy an aftermarket part to lock my helmet to the bike. 😅

Main two reasons:
1. To learn to ride, first bike. Didn't want a full sized moto (and easier to talk my wife into) I just wish I picked something that had a standard clutch, since now I need to learn again on a 2nd bike.
2. Solo tent camping is my decompress/stress relief. Wanted the hauling space and nice gas mileage/offroad ability.

Don't sweat the clutch. In no time it will be second nature.

My story is a bit of an odd one, but here it goes:

I've always have had a slight interest in sub-200cc motorcycles with minibikes, since I was in middleschool in the early 2010's. I grew up riding a 2007 SSR 125cc pitbike at the time, but after I graduated in high-school and didn't get fully back into riding motorcycle untill a year or two ago. Sometime around 2017/2018 I re-read one of my favorite Japanese manga series, Oh! My Goddess! which has a plethora of highly-detailed real-world vehicles, namely the Honda Motra, as it was used by one of the physically biggest side-characters in the series (who has even carried it!):

And for some reason, a small smoulder was lit back in my mind, and I wanted to know more about it. It then grew to minibikes in general. Sometime later in 2019 I went to go look at a GROM, but was dissatisfied. Sure, it looked cool, and probably is a lot a fun! But I was itching for that Motra look still, and when I couldn't find anything that particularly interested me went and bought a 2013 CRF250L from a family friend instead so I could better myself for riding on paved roads while still having the option to have some fun. I sometime later in 2021 read up on the old CT90 and CT110s, and wished that I could own a CT110, it was much, much closer to what I was looking for! But after looking at the prices for them, I kinda just went and forgot about it. Then I found out about the 2022 Trail 125s being sold. It was a complete shocker to me! I thought Honda would never do this! I was so, so happy to see a bike so similar to the Motra to be an actual thing in the US! So I went into the details of the 2021-2022 models, and was... Kinda disappointed how Honda made them. Reading about the lack-of-power woes and the faulty heel-toe shifter and no dual-range didn't bring any confidence in me, and I really didn't have the money/patience to buy one at the time because of That Thing that happened in 2020/2021 made is so money was tight. So I decided to wait, and hold my bets in that Honda was gonna release the updated models that they had in japan, here in the US. And thankfully, I won that bet! With the improved motor, I felt much more confident in buying a Trail 125, even though I saw the absolute rarity of them in Minnesota. But I got lucky in this October and was able to snatch one up.

Maybe one day I'll get a real import Motra and have it it be partners in crime with the Trail 125, who knows! I love the Trail, and I'm gonna keep it for a long, long time.

You can put a clutch on it... I'm looking at that mod right now... had mine a week, and man I miss a standard clutch. Assuming it's a quality mod, it's probably money well spent.

I have a BMW R1200GS, a 2018 KLR 650, a Vespa GTS 300. I bought the Trail 125 because it looks cool and doesn't give the same vibe as the Vespa. In fact I'm thinking about selling the Vespa simply because it goes 80mph just like a regular motorcycle. There's nothing "scooter" about it. Not that the Trail is a scooter. I'd much prefer to go slower sometimes. I'm going to be interested as riding season comes. Which bike will I grab on a Saturday morning?!? :)

Spent the last 60 years riding on some sort of motorized 2 wheels.
Raced MX, Hare Scrambles, Enduros, Trials. Ate up a Lot of asphalt on a road bike.
Had Harley's, an Indian, Royal Enfield, Triumph.
Retired now, don't really have the ," itch" to hit the roads and tour, but, still want to ride.
Sold my 2016 Triumph Scrambler, was looking at a Vespa,( dealer told me, order one, dunno when it'll come, but, we' all call ya)?!
Saw the this bike on Facebook and REALLY liked the look,( if Willys Jeep made a bike, it'd look like this)!
Call the owner and poof! It's my new ride!
It not a bike, not a scooter, but, a "Utility Bike"!!
