Should I get an old 110 or a new 125?

Get the 125. Instant starts, smooth, quiet. Good power especially if geared right. You being a light rider and sounds like primarily on road the bike stock would work well for you. It's the ultimate "grocery getter" for sure with that huge rack. I bought a used 2022 about 6 weeks ago with 250...

2023 600 mile service... Standby for news!

Great info as always, dmonkey! I did my 600 mile maintenance yesterday, all with parts ordered on Amazon. Ended up with the MP-01 since I didn’t know about the MP-01T, started ordering the wrong oil filter (Amazon recommends a 2-pack of ATV filters that don’t fit) but eventually got the right...

2023 600 mile service... Standby for news!

That link is for a different part with a different thread. Not compatible with the CT125. Now I'm wondering if that might have been the cause of your stripped drain plug thread. @Newrider@66 make sure whatever you buy says it has a M12x1.5 thread or has the right part number.

2023 600 mile service... Standby for news!

The 2020-2022 JA55 model CT125's OEM oil drain plug has a 17mm hex head that matches the Gold Plug MP-01, while the 2023-2024 JA65 model's OEM oil drain plug has a 12mm hex head that matches the Gold Plug MP-01T. Both have the same thread of M12x1.5 so either will work, some people just prefer...

2023 600 mile service... Standby for news!

New member, Haven't ridden a motorcycle since 1978. Just got my bike. I'd like to do the oil change early and put in a gold plug. I have searched the forum and online and am really confused about what to get. Can someone put a valid source with a link to where to get a gold magnetic drain plug?

2023 600 mile service... Standby for news!

Thanks for the write up! I just hit the 600 mile mark on mine a couple days ago and will be doing this over the weekend. Went ahead and picked up a Gold Plug while I was at it thanks to the advice of the fine folks in these forums. Vroom vroom! 🏍️

2023 600 mile service... Standby for news!

Well, I passed 600 miles a couple hundred miles back, but the top end has been a little noisy so I decided it was time... valve time. I wasn't in a huge hurry because I changed the oil at 100 miles, and installed a gold plug, which I had since convinced myself was just stupid, the thing has a...

Remember the stripped drain hole? I am back on the road!

As a reminder I am the guy who accidentally over torqued a Gold Plug magnetic plug onto the bottom of my 17 mile '23 and it came back to bite me at a 300 mile oil change with stripped threads: https://hondatrail125.com/index.php?threads/ugh-horrible-screw-up-stripped-oil-drain.2538/ So after...

UGH! HORRIBLE screw up- stripped oil drain

I've stripped more bolts with a torque wrench then without, and have never seen the need for a gold plug.... I vote oversized drain bolt. KISS I know the feeling you had when you realized the f-up, it is horrible, sorry for that.

UGH! HORRIBLE screw up- stripped oil drain

I will have to check, I will look at the service manual to see what size and thread. I would re tap it. If you have to buy it,you can sell it to the next Gorilla grip that does it on the forum.Should be as easy as it was to strip it. You could find an engine shop or machine shop, but you can do...

UGH! HORRIBLE screw up- stripped oil drain

Ok, so this situation is entirely on me- I screwed up! I installed a gold plug when my '23 bike had 17 miles on it. I think what happened is I seated the plug right near 18lb with my regular socket and then I put the torque wrench to it. I remember the torque wrench clicking almost immediately...

    Gear Indicator

I wouldn't expect shifting to be difficult just because you haven't had to do it before; honestly after just a couple of rides it'll likely become second nature. Most things in life are like that. Back in the day, Honda used to mark some of their MC speedometers with numbers where you should...

    Gear Indicator

Oof, yeah, not a fan of that since I was planning to get the gold plug… This is the first “motorcycle” I’ve owned so I can tell that learning to shift is going to be difficult. Everything I’ve owned before this was some variety of clutchless scooter or moped with a throttle and dual hand...

    Oil plug washer?

The science of smoothness can be incredibly interesting. XKCD does a great analysis of "how smooth is a bowling ball, really?" and it kinda highlights how things we think are smooth aren't really smooth. Knives too - obsidian knives vs. steel knives. RE: the gold plug, that's the one I know...

    Oil plug washer?

Why was I given that washer? You should be replacing the washer each time you change the oil. The washer helps create an effective seal and is "destroyed" on each use. Note that there's a lot of flexibility in the interpretation of that as a hard requirement, based on a few things. Why should I...
