The dealer near has 2 new hunter cubs fresh off the truck. They quoted $6600. I countered at $5000. They said best offer $6250. I walked. Was I wrong? Is that what others are asking or have paid?

Its a free market. its a ridiculous price, but supply and demand. potential customers will remember this down the road though, local dealer lost 3 of us as potential customers over this same thing years ago when i went in to buy a new z900. I wont even buy an oil filter there now.

Agreed. This same dealer whom I actually like unfortunately quoted Me Too High for a pair of kingquads I wanted a few years ago. I did buy the kingquads a750 and 400 from another dealer even though I really did actually want to buy them from this same dealer.

years ago, me and my then wife were looking at an aprila falco, for her. local dealer tried same thing, went to greenville dealer, bought one for reasonable price, then next weekend rode it back to original dealer and parked right in front of their door while we went in for free Saturday coffee and donuts to kick tires. f-em. they reap what they sow, and it cost them a 11k sale back in 2004.

Well, like "m in sc" I would walk. I related my saga up in the New Members section but didn't reveal what I paid (on Jan 25th, 2022) in Virginia. $4375.95 out the door but I handled the taxes, title, & tag operation myself which was another $248.00.

I don’t even buy motorcycles from a dealer in Vegas anymore. They’re all RideNow’s, and they’re all a ripoff. I drive to Utah, if I want a new Honda. I got my CT from a local guy in Vegas, Used, with zero miles.

No, you were not wrong. I would have walked as well. Way too many other bikes that would be just as good or better for a much lower cost. Don't give these dealers the time of day. I refuse to pay over MSRP. If you do, and you wreck that bike, no insurance company will bail you out. You'll lose all the overage you paid.

I just purchased my trail in OR and paid $4,800. I tried talking them down from their $800 dealer doc fees and destination charge but they wouldn't budge.

I purchased diablo shocks so I can actually carry some game off the mountain and I am now looking for complimentary tires and front mudguard. Any suggestions for which knobby tires and front mudguard I should be looking for? Thx

I haven't put them on yet (snowing now), but I just got these in the mail. I am running Shinko SR241s which are a good offroad (trials) tire though very soft. I plan to pull the front fender and re-drill the holes in it for a little more clearance at the same time that I add the mud flaps. The tire fits in the front fender, but debris such as rocks, snow, and mud can be heard jamming up in the fender at times.

I think this really comes down to how much do you want it? That's not as simple as it should be.

The irony of this statement isn't lost on me considering I just came back from Vegas to buy a CT125 after exhausting all other options for the last 8 months. South Jordan UT's Honda Powersports and I have had many crossed paths but never connected. For a while they were getting more CT125's than anyone else within 1000 mi of Seattle, but they'd never pick up the f**king phone, and I called them at least a dozen times, getting put on hold half of those times. I talk to my local dealer all the time, and in the past 9 months he's received a total of 2 bikes in the dead of winter. His wait list is 21 deep and he's not taking deposits which is why I had to go farther abroad. He literally told me, to my face, with the finance guy standing right behind him and agreeing, that if I could buy it from somewhere else I should.

Like it is quite literally that bad. Your options are pay more, go somewhere abroad and pay more (because transportation isn't free), or get a different motorcycle.

If $6250 gets you a bike now or you can get the same bike in 2 years for $4750, you will need to ask yourself if the extra $15 a week savings was really worth it. This is not a hypothetical situation; this is the reality to a person living where I am. Supply distribution in the USA is VERY uneven, skewed to the east coast. If you have something else to ride, and you only kinda want the bike, that's a pretty easy answer - I'd wait in that case. But if you specifically wanted this bike, and not wait forever...

EDIT: also dealer charges went up at the start of this year. That was a Honda wide thing, not related to any specific dealer. My local dealer said his went up $100.

I’m enjoying my freedom to spend my money when and where I want. I’m not sure how long this will still be the case. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I am ridiculously jealous of all of the guys in the Missouri to Florida area. They have lots of options that I just don't have. But it's not lost on me that much more capable bikes can be purchased for $6000 OTD.
