$5 Windscreen

Looking at the windscreen mounting tabs on the Honda genuine accessory front rack, it occurred to me that I should make use of them. Rationalized as a temporary experiment, though knowing full well it will probably be there for a long time, I proceeded to fashion a little cowl out of available material.

The material available was a $5 trash can from Walmart, you know, the purveyor of fine motorcycling products;) Not ashamed to say this isn't my first trashcan windscreen, though fear it may not be my last. The existing curvature and size of the can made a helpful starting point.

Tools used: tin snips, sharp blades, sandpaper/file, drill and Dremel Tool. Pretty sure it's against the law to fabricate anything without using a Dremel Tool?? Was hoping it would shade the Instruments Cluster to improve its daylight visibility, alas, no such luck.

Admittedly, wind blast at top speed isn't a thing, so the effort could be relegated to cosmetics. It's sturdy enough though, doesn't hamper forward visibility or impede use of the front rack, and it almost looks like it belongs.

Looking at the inspiration for that screen I think we have some shared DNA! It might well keep a few flies out of your teeth once summer arrives …

My repurposed offering is a stolen twelve inches from Mrs K’s broomstick, some shrink wrap and jammed in place as a bar brace/bag hanger

I’ve used corrugated plastic sign board in the past to make windscreens and fairings, but I am DEFINITELY stealing this idea!

Cool idea and looks good, too. I'm removing a Zeta large screen off of my '22 'cause there is less wind/buffeting on my screenless '23 to the point I don't notice wind at all around town. A smaller version like yours may work really well. No matter how I angle mine it I find it hard to take a breath. Some sort of vacuum or low pressure zone is created and has driven me crazy trying to get rid of it but no luck. Nice job with that.

You could try cutting a vent in the Zeta large screen, or raising it so some air can pass beneath it. Buffeting is wind rushing into the low pressure zone. If some wind can pass into it then it can create a bit of an air bubble around the rider instead. To clean up the airflow large touring windscreens that are fixed in position often use a vent, while adjustable ones often let some wind flow beneath the shield when it's in a raised position.
