I'm looking for suggestions for a new lens for my EOS T8i. I'm a total amateur with a package Cannon T8i/EFS18-55mm. My interest are wildlife, old industrial buildings and vintage farm equipment. I would like a nice zoom capability somewhere in the $500 range. My metal detector is a well-worn Bounty Hunter Landstar. I would like an upgrade for recreational hunting for coins. Any suggestions will be appreciated. The new CT will be my pack mule to get me in more remote areas.

A really good lens for the money is the Canon EFS 55-250, really sharp and fast focus which would be 88-400mm on a crop frame sensor, your 18-55 equals about 29-88 so you're covered pretty well. I did a lot of airshows and bird photography with mine until I got serious and bought more lenses, looking back, the weight of the EFS is nice compared to the L lenses
I also have a XP deus detector, really lightweight around 2 lbs so you can swing it all day without arm ache, an excellent detector and with the headphones it comes with you don't even have to carry the main controller, the bluetooth headphones with built in controller pair with the coil so you can pretty much walk around with the lightest detector ever. No cable to the coil so it doesn't catch on stuff. They are rechargeable and the battery lasts about 3 days on a charge
I just got the XP Deus ll, I take it with me on my bike off the beaten path. The optional pinpointer pairs to the coil and headphones so when you turn it on it comes through the headphones.

Thanks BANANAPPEAL, the EFS 55-250 has several good reviews, and the price point is very attractive. I will definitely consider it. The literature on the T8i makes it hard to know if it really has the crop frame sensor. One problem I am having is when I load the pictures on the PC, the file is so big, I'm not sure how to handle. Reminder, total amateur! I'm still learning. The Deus looks amazing. I will study it more. Thanks again!

Yes, the Canon EOS Rebel T8i is a crop frame camera. It uses an APS-C sensor which is smaller than a full-frame sensor, resulting in a crop factor of 1.6x. This means that lenses on the T8i will have a narrower field of view and a deeper depth of field compared to the same lens on a full-frame camera. So 1.6 X 250 = 400 So you'll have the same field of view as a 400mm lens on a full frame. You using a pc or Mac? Preview on my Mac works for resizing. I'm sure pc or windows has a resize, lots of videos on Youtube on how to or google "how to resize photos on PC"

On the detector I didn't find a huge difference between deus 1 and 2 other than the 2 does saltwater better and I could've been just as happy with the 1 since I'm not at the beach that much and when I am I'm on dry sand which the 1 does just as well. My first decent detector was a Tesoro Vaquero which had only beeps with no readout, I found tons of stuff and after learning the sounds I could hear the good from the bad.
