I managed to install with a home made adapter plate...basically, this thing can mount directly to the tool box mount but that makes it too tall for the bottle to fit under the rack...so a plate to extend it down a few inches and everything is AOK...I'll put up pics later...

Looking forward to seeing that!

My rigged mount worked ok but didn't have the proper rear offset to allow fuel cap to clear rack's tie down hook...almost had the bracket done but turns out someone had broke the metal band saw at work so I'll have to wait...my photo is backwards...

Whilst I can see that the bottle itself can be sourced elsewhere at very reasonable prices- suggestive that the frame etc seems rather expensive as a result… I take the view that at least it means that spare and replacement bottles are easily obtained; adding to the sense of future-proofing your set up! 😁
You were correct about the sizing of those flexible fuel containers so I opted for plan B. Reports of the tool box flange failures and the cost of suitable side racks had me revert to carrying my two 2L bottles (like yours) in a simple soft bag. There are many on Amazon and eBay and are inexpensive. The trick is to find one whose closure flap can be theaded up through the side of the rack and fastened to itself. For extra security a couple of heavy duty reusable zip ties can also attach the bag using the shoulder strap attachment points. A further bonus is that such bags can also hold an enlarged tool kit at the same time

I have done the same up front and just clipped a similar bag to the mirror mounts using carabiner hooks

So I never got around to finishing this plate after I found a study bracket at a local hardware store that was just about a perfect fit...except for not canting rearward...but it already powder coated and an easy mount...to compensate for the lack of rearward shift, I had to reverse the bottle so it would clear the luggage hook...

I bit the bullet and bought the origional round tank for a ct90. I almost cried when I hit ok on PayPal but I guess I wanted it bad enough.
I appreciate your honesty.
If I had the extra money I'd get one also. Please post pics so I can dream.

This bike has found my weak spot. Honestly, I'm just a broken old man who looks like a hobo. Now I've blinged up my headlight, added fancy racks, and rather than just use a $10 one gallon gas can from anywhere I'm looking at fancy ones. Seriously. This is not me. I've bought my motorcycles not because of how they look but because of what they are. Same with this one, but the accessories! Now I look like an upscale, debonair hobo!
I love the ridiculousness of having spare fuel, multiple racks, etc on a bike that other riders don't consider a "real" bike. Is it my old man spite reflex?
Considering putting a trailer hitch on it just to get people thinking..
Sheesh.

Also, this forum is the best. Old people will remember the days when there was no information available. Nothing. You had to hopefully meet people IRL that might have info or write and send a letter to manufacturer or figure it out yourself.
It sucked. And this is in regards to everything. Yes, it's good to figure things out yourself, but having info allows you to do more, and often do it safer, better, quicker, and other words like that.
This forum, (and the internet for general things) can give people an amazing amount of information about products they're buying or want to build, etc.

Circling back to accessories, even with the web at our fingertips, having a dedicated forum with riders who've actually bought and used the stuff is the difference between buying 3 of something or buying the right one.
So many jerry can options. Given the distances and type of riding my wife and I are doing you'd think I wouldn't need one. However, the issue with our little gas misers is it's easy for me to forget about gassing it up! Not something I have to do much. A gallon would be overkill but a liter or two would come in handy for a forgetful old man. Thinking about one of these for the milk crate.

Thanks to everyone here who shares so much information and knowledge. 🙏🖖

Agreed, the information is great. I bought the Sonic Crafty setup having already been warned from this thread about how it required multiple different parts to be purchased together which add up to $$$, but I like the mount points, small size, and that it tucks out of the way where I can still hang something else over it on the left side of the bike. 2L has been a very useful size. With this bike being best suited for back roads, it's easy to go far in some areas without passing a gas station unless you plan a detour back to main roads to refuel. Nice to be able to skip that detour or at least postpone it until more convenient.

I used the ‘official’ set up brackets but found there was a little rattle of the bottle in the carrier. I solved this by using the heavy duty 3M Dual Lock tape - somewhat very heavy duty Velcro. It secures the bottle well on its own and has been used for some time now as a filled bottle on rough trails. The Velcro stops any rubbing on the carrier finish too!

I've been watching and waiting for a good spare gas container setup. I like this the best so far Just don't like the price of the helmet holder (although it may be the way I go).
Your solution looks good. Does the bottom of the setup move much? Like towards the wheel? Is it sturdy enough for trail riding? Can't tell from the pics.

Looks like it says "National" on the hanger bracket you bought at the hardware store.

Here is the OG, bought a whole non running non titled 1974 ct for $350 just for the tank and mount... Changed the clutch and the kicker engages and it ran for 10 years till I sold it!

Check out these quick fist attachments, we use these a lot in off-road racing. Probably find something in there for the 125

Money well spent, Beautiful fuel can! Look at the effort that went into the hardware, I miss metal construction. There's probably a pallet loaded with those somewhere in Asia, in the corner of a warehouse that a manager is considering scrapping.
That Quickfist link is the type of thing I was talking about in previous post, super-specialized mounting hardware that the average person may not even consider looking for. Thanks for posting!

When I found out this bracket needed the helmet mount, I knew that was not going to happen...$350+ to carry gas?! lol...the setup I found was simpler, lighter and way more economical...the whole setup is very firm and will not move more than a fraction of an inch when forced sideways...

Is all the weight on the 2 tool box bolt holes, or are other mount points used?
