Pic isn't loading for me, the wife wouldn't let me carry over the old milk crate for her new ride, i went with an old Wald cruiser bike basket and hit it with Steel-it to take the shine off. A fan of the OG milk crate too. The welded in nuts are a nice touch for mounting, used a thin piece of ply then threw the grass on top for the dog! PS, cant fit a 30 pack in the milk crate šŸ˜‰

You will love it! See if you can ride the bike without a smile?

Got the above Milwaukee Packout stuff to try. Pricy but crate locks to base and there is also a wooden top that locks to crate. The base is a little bigger than the 16x18 of the cargo carrier on the donkey but allows tie-downs and hooks to be attached around the edges. The instructions want the base mounted longitudinally to direction of travel to keep the crate from unlocking due to sudden start or acceleration. I am looking for a rubber pad to put under the base before figuring out how to fasten the base down semi permanently. The crate snaps on and off with a pull up of the locking tab. It is directional so I'm putting on so it slides off to the left as that is the side I dismount on away from muffler. Crate has drains cut in bottom too. The wooden cap is the same size as the base so will stick out all around and I'm not sure I want that possibly hitting my back. I will get one to try anyway and post pictures shortly of what it looks like sitting on cargo rack.

I ordered the Thule basket. I am concerned that a metal basket will rust or corrode in my humid climate. I will post pictures when it is installed.

My intention for the bike is as a short distance runaround. Most rides will be within a 3 mile radius where parking is a challenge. The ability to run to the market to grab a few things and just throw the bags in the basket is a must. Im surprised there aren't any real solutions to the basket dilemma yet.

I use a old Pelican case, it's pretty handy and lockable.

collapsible from clever made with bungee net:

mounted with a thin aluminum plate drilled and countersunk to thread right into the 'back' 2 holes. front i made a small t-bar to go thru the oval slot thru the factory rack and another m6 bolt., thru the holes in the bottom of the crate. comes off in about a minute with a cross head screwdriver. secure as can be. In crate was 2 subs, wiring materials, 3 cans of brake clean and other stuff for working on the project 66 galaxie. still had a lot of room in there.
