Flossing USB wires

I just installed a dual port USB with volt meter rather easily. I honed out factory bracket hole diameter only slightly with a small sanding bit that fits on drill to accept USB which was only slightly larger. I ,of course removed battery cover and disconnected battery terminals in proper order. Then for routing wires I took a piece of bailing wire, covered tip with electrical tape and gently able to pass beneath the plastic shroud (the section with “Honda” emblem) after visualizing what was beneath enough from top with flashlight. Once I passed this bailing wire through to other end I taped plastic corrugated split wire shielding and pulled back through gently yielding for any resistance then this became conduit to pass wires through and also provide protective cover beneath shroud and as it exits alongside triple clamp where connected to USB. The USB wires were not long enough so I needed to extend of which I stripped 1/4” off end of all adjoining wires and connected them with these fantastic stranded wire union connectors tha require heat from heat gun and this melts the solder inside connected then tins wire and seal over bother ends.. in addition I slid shrink wrap wire protector over connected unions thus offering even more protection. Photos below. All works great with direct connect to battery and in line fusible link comes with USB. I also changed battery post terminal bolts to hex cap stainless. The stock JIS Awhere already stripped from dealer prep ASE connector install for battery tender connection. 985A7077-1E0F-44B6-8734-52F497EA1031.jpeg38617797-BCB1-4566-8472-0D0DDDBFF6C7.jpeg5C3BF45C-5BBE-4AAA-8BAF-38566E51FC74.jpeg

Looks great. As I contemplate between the OEM 12v socket and an aftermarket solution it seems like the aftermarket is the way to go!

The OEM socket from Honda also needs a bit of honing to factory bracket as well. This and fact that you would need to then purchase a socket USB retrofit which likely not as nice, possibly no volt meter and too many voids for water to get in socket would lend to better off with after market also if that fails can easily replace with another S the have female connectors at base of USB. I bought two of these for only 17 bucks.

Those usb thingies usually have a parasitic draw…. That’s why some will run the wires that plug into a charger to the vicinity then have the opposite end on the usb thing. I have drained my full size bike batteries before. Then with the dongle you can charge the battery, bonus if you have one without a fuse then you can jump it😂😂😂

That's a shame that the dealer messed those up on your new motorcycle. I imagine the tech may have just been ham-fisted and overtightened them. Before they're stripped, the No 2 Phillips screwdriver included in the bike's toolkit fits fine.

Yuasa, the OEM battery manufacturer, has great customer support. In the past when I've contacted them asking to purchase replacement hardware for various batteries they've ended up sending the hardware and a sticker or two free of charge.
