I considered running a Fumoto very early on as my earliest of early mods (before I had accepted delivery of the bike). The decision was Fumoto (more frequent changes) vs. Gold plug (better removal of material). I decided to go with the Gold Plug for long term reliability.
We had several guys using Fumoto plugs at my old workplace (in the general automotive slack channel). I chatted with them about it, and as owners who used Fumoto plugs they all recommended the little "clip" to lock it in place as a "I didn't accidentally leave it open did I?" mental check. A couple suggested getting the Fram SureDrain as an alternative.
The guys
that actually did the Cannonball runs didn't use Fumoto's or express a desire to. It never sounded like draining the oil was a problem they had to worry too much about. I agree with
@ShieldArc - it's not very difficult to do, and it's very fast. At worst you drop the bolt into the oil, but I'm getting pretty good at not doing that.
Additionally, we've already had several members point out that the screen is very close to the plug (to the point that GoldPlug shortened the MP-01 slightly). The Fumoto is unstested tech that may not actually fit on this bike.
That being said, if you're the first to install one, I'd love to know how it pans out for you. Just because it's always been done that way doesn't mean it has to keep being done that way.
