For just a little bit of a rewind I am the guy who over-torqued my drain plug and stripped it. I opted to upsize the plug to 14mm and did a drill/tap on it to get it there. I wanted to do a quick interval oil change just to make sure the filter caught anything I did not get out when flushing it. Today I did the oil change only 100 miles after the drill/tap. WOW! the filter caught a lot of crud that was left behind and I am glad to have an actual filter to change out on the '23's and up. All the crud was isolated to one pleat and I did not take notice as to where that pleat was "clock positioned" at. I cleaned out the whole filter housing and no other shavings were found.

I do see flecks of blue material in with the junk- sealant material?

Anyways, after all I went through I am actually kinda at peace with the bike again- I mean I did an oil change and did not break anything!!

Glad to hear you had a smooth oil change!
The OEM clutch springs have some blue paint on them, maybe to indicate stiffness or just to prevent them from getting mixed up with ones for other models? Not sure. That would be my guess for where those blue specks came from. The Hondabond gasket sealant is grey in color and feels like you'd expect silicone to feel, somewhat rubbery. Black material could be from the cam chain rollers or the plastic oil pump drive gear. Probably not a lot of wear on either of the clutch assemblies yet, but as those wear they'll also leave specks of friction material into the oil.

After thinking about all of this, and what dmonkey had to say, I am worried about what all this gunk could mean. Mechanically it seems like the bike is running fine, but a filter that looks like that does cause concern. Any ideas, thoughts or suggestions?

I am nowhere needing to take drastic measures at this point but this whole ordeal has made me wonder if Honda sells whole new replacement engines just in case of catastrophic failure?

Thank you

The price of parts being so high- Honda would probably want $3,000 for an engine.
I have a Yamaha 4 stroke 2.5hp outboard- $960- new bare block- $750,, LAF...

Yeah, that doesn't look alarming. How many miles total are on your CT125? Same idea as with the magnet plug, a filter not only catches things but lets you monitor what's in the oil. Just do your next oil change earlier than what's on the schedule again if you're concerned, and see what's in the filter then.

You can call your dealer and ask but I don't think Honda sell a crate engine for the CT125 other than putting in an order for it as parts with assembly required.

its fine. probably a tiny bit of cam wheel rubber wearing in.
Thank you for weighing in, your knowledge goes a long ways around here!

Thank you again for your help.
I have 403 total miles on the bike. 101 miles since the drain plug mishap. I do plan on doing another oil/filter change at 500 miles to get an idea of how it is trending.
