I purchased the Black Widow 400lb aluminum carrier from Discountramps.com. The welds are terrible. I probably have should have gone with the one from HB. Price is probably the same when you consider I wanted the folding mechanism and it came with a decent anti-rattle device.

“mysteriously my review never made it to the website”

you’re smarter than that, dude.
I may have been overly dramatic there. At 14k reel views on IG and another 1k views on YT plus anybody that finds my site review on Google or wherever, I think I got my opinion out there without them publishing it.

I have that same Black Widow ramp minus the folding attachment. Quality of mine is satisfactory for the cost and I have lugged various machines over the past 4yrs with it covering a good couple thousand miles. Welds don't all look the prettiest but it's gotten the job done without issue.

The best hitch carrier for a rail style carrier is the Rack N Ride aka Rack N Roll. The Ultimate MX and Moto Jack Rack are both great options as well for those who want a jack-up style carrier.

Never heard of it before. It comes in my favorite color, too. I'd have to use it pretty often to justify the cost, though.

They aren't cheap but I assure you it's the best. I have had a lot of them from the cheapest HF jobs all the way up to this one and nothing else touches it. The jack style are great too for those that don't want to roll something onto a rail.

I bought the cheapest on Amazon to haul only the trail on the back of my camper. Plenty for it. I did beef up the bumper and used lock tight on all the bolts.

Have you ever had a failure?

The HF carrier? Oh yes, I damn near lost a buddies Beta 300RR off the back of my truck at 75 mph going down 10 in Phoenix on my way to Death Valley last year. The rail failed at the main hitch extension. If it weren't for the handlebar strap and my now massively dented tailgate, the bike would have gone tumbling down the interstate. The only damage to the bike was the rear tire which got a nice shave lol, my tailgate on the other hand.

A buddy of mine had one fail with a scooter on it, they have their place but I wouldn't put anything of real value on one or trust it cross country.

I just finished bolting together the Harbot Freight steel carrier. I have yet to use it but I did walk the bike up on it 3 times. I didn't have the appropriate ratchet straps handy but the hitch is rock solid loading and unloading. The "steel" may be" chinesium" but all the critical stuff is bolted together with multiple bolts secured with nylock nuts. Plenty stout for anything you should even think about hanging off a receiver hitch.

There were issues with one generation of the hf aluminum version, I think I have the newer one with literally 1000’s of miles, 1/2 or so in Baja with 1/2 off that on dirt. A big steel plate under the aluminum truss I think was the design change.
Thanks for the answer!

Black Widow for the $$. My KTM 1090R was the heaviest thing on their and ZERO issues. I did modify and make my own wheel chocks though. Cheap ebay ones cut in half and welded back together.

They haven't made them in years and when they did I think they were only ever sold in the South West but if you can find one of these carriers made by a company called Zieman, buy it! Solidly built, heavy duty (along with heavy! Mine weighs ~80 LBS without the ramp attached) I actually prefer using the carrier as opposed to loading into the back of my truck because it's easier for me to load and un-load off the carrier. I added the LED light strip along with a set of safety chains. The heaviest bike I've carried on mine was a friends 450 Honda. I did see a 990 KTM Adventure being hauled on one, but was told it wasn't for very far.

They do pop-up from time-to-time on the used market. I bought this one on CL 12 or 13 years ago. I've been asked to build duplicate ones for friends who want one but can't find them, but haven't done that...yet.
