I’ve just arrived home after riding my new CT 125 around Australia, 14,500 kms. I was raising funds for suicide prevention. I started on June 21, in Nowra, two hours south of Sydney. I rode north on a postie bike super cub 110, but it blew up in Townsville after just 2,300 kms. My only option was to buy a new CT 125. I did. It was great to ride the rest of the way on Highway 1. I did encounter some problems though. The chain kept stretching and in Esperance I had to take out a number of links, something I’ve never done before. I also picked up some dirty fuel near Albany and at high speed (I sat on 80-85 kms per hr all day) I would experience a total loss of power quite suddenly. It was always a shock when it happened as I’m not a motorcyclist and it would throw me forward on the bike quite sharply. It was only transitory except for a couple of times. No one had a fuel filter so I rode close to 5,000 kms like this. I emptied the fuel tank after taking it off in Eucla, but the problem persisted. Anyway, I was able to ride around Oz in just over six weeks (46 days) on my two postie bikes and raised close to $35,000 for suicide prevention in the defence and veterans community I would like to go for a Guinness book of records attempt on my postie at the same thing next year. To see photos of the ride visit apostieride4ptsd a public FB group and join the group. I still have to ride through Tassie and the ACT, where I will give the Prime Minister a letter I’ve been carrying all the way with me advocating for better access to mental health services for sufferers of mental illness.

The CT performed well, with a top speed of 100, but only on a downhill slope or slipstreaming behind a road train. It went well on the Savannah Way on the long dirt section of more than 500 kms. This section of the trip was horrendous with a terribly corrugated dirt road. Bulls on the highway and even being charged by one.
Thank you,
Dr Michael Davey
