I know it was secured. I know the latch was closed. I got to the inspection station today and it was gone. The mechanic’s opinion, with which I agree, is that it is probably a vibration issue. I have seen it posted here before (couldn’t find the thread).

Make sure you secure your tool kit!

Loctite it is then!
The frustrating thing is, I read about this happening before I got my bike and made extra sure that it was closed and tight. I highly recommend using something extra to ensure it can’t open on its own. It seems like a poor design. At least if it opened from the bottom, when it popped open the door wouldn’t swing down and let the kit slide out. It *might* keep it in place.

There are some solutions here: https://hondatrail125.com/index.php?threads/keep-an-eye-on-your-tool-box.53/
I am running a side rack with aux fuel can that changes the orientation of the toolbox, but I'm still using a reusable zip-tie to keep the lid shut.

There's also a very expensive solution of a locking lid!

Thanks. I was looking for that thread, but the search feature was not returning anything.
