Just out of curiosity, has anyone done this as of yet? I still have my original grom motor (with a broken rod but still).. has anyone done this yet? I looked online but found not much.

I'd be interested in this as well. I always thought it odd that Honda didn't use the 'Sport Clutch' on their Mini-Moto's (Grom, Monkey, Trail). The 'Sport Clutch' is a feature Honda uses on their TRX250ex Quads. It's great for beginners because you can shift the trans the same way we do on the Trails or you can pull the Clutch in and shift it like a normal Moto or ATV but without the fear of grinding, stalling or launching. I've trained many new riders on my my 250ex and it works well to get the concept to them. It would make sense to have something like that on a Trail since experienced riders could use the Clutch, inexperienced could just shift gears. Maybe Honda will add this feature when they come-out with a Trail 200 :p

A Honda Trail 200 with manual 5 speed would be the only thing that would make me sell my 125...:p

do a 186 bbk, 5 speed and this conversion and you'll be set. ;) with all corresponding & supporting mods, prob in the ~1500-1800 dollar range.

on topic though, the only thing id really be concerned with is the replacement spinner fitting the trail crank. I know there were differences in cranks but not sure exactly what.

But a genuine ground up offer from Honda could potentially offer a lot more content for the extra $$$ + warranty...like higher speed/climbing abilities, spin on filter, oil cooler, fatter tires, more travel, etc, etc...

I looked into this a bit before, the CT125 has the same crankshaft as the Wave 125i according to parts fiches.

That looks surprisingly simple!

Dumb question time- does the auto clutch have any more parasitic loss vs full manual?

i dont think so, the stock motors had a heavy flywheel there anyway. common mod was to turn it down to reduce weight to get it to rev quicker. (grom motors). while this makes a difference in the ability to spin it up faster..., motor also vibrates more. IF i ever do it, i'll prob leave the 'blank' auto clutch wheel as is. Lightening the flywheel is noticeable if you have a high rpm modified motor, but will also allow th emotor to return to a lower rpm faster, which can hurt carrying speed in a corner, or for any trail riding.

well im pretty sure thats never going to happen, the grom guys have been saying the same thing since 2014. thats why cbr300 swaps are so popular on them. ;)

Wonder if that would fit in a TW? I'd love a FI TW.
