Greetings, new friends! My name is Tyler, and I’m located here in Vermont. I just picked up my new ct125, and of course I’m pretty excited. I’ve been lurking here for a few months since I ordered the bike. So far the precious donkey is sporting bark busters, a liberal coat of acf-50 and knobby tires with screw-in type studs. The tires are Kenda Trackmaster 760 in 70/100-17. I went through several tubes before I got the mounting right. She’ll be my daily commuter this winter, until I cave in and buy some sort of beater car. My other ride is an bmw f650cs. Anyway, hello to all and happy trails! 😁

Yeah, lurking around on the adventure riders forum got me kind of excited. With intention I blew my car down payment on the ct150, thus committing to winter riding. My focus now is on mitigating risk, which mainly means low speed travel. But with a 5 mile commute on back roads, what better than a donkey to get me to work? 😀

Nice to see another winter traction setup! How are those studs if you hit a spot of pavement without snow or ice? I run a tire chain on the rear of mine for snow and ice. Hopefully you don't need to mess with tire changes again for a while, but if you do, I've found that the zip tie method is a great way to avoid pinching the tube while mounting a tire. That's a good looking F650CS you've got as well, they're quirky rides.

Jeesums dmonkey, I like your tire chains, and your post on winter riding is full of good and important information. I have learned not to touch the front brake, using just the rear seems to anchor the bike nicely. I actually haven’t seen much ice on pavement yet, though I live on a dirt road that is currently plowed and frozen. The studs have held up very well so far. I haven’t lost a single one yet, and they’re not even noticeable on pavement. The first few rides settled those studs nicely into the tires, with really just the 1mm carbide tip above the surface of the rubber. I’m going to double the number per tire when winter really gets here. I think that your riding advice is spot on, and with slow speed I can avoid leaning and stop gently. Do take care, fellow adventurer, and most happy riding!

Nice to meet u Tyler, I live just outside Manchester NH. I don't have studs on, but I am still riding the trail. Have you installed heated grips yet? I'm still trying to settle on a pair. I have always bought Hot Grip brand, but they no longer are in business. Hope to see you on the road one day.

Hey, nice to meet you too. I don’t have heated grips yet, but I have 7.5v heated gloves with rechargeable batteries. They work well so far, and when it’s properly cold I plan to wear shell mitts over them. I get over to Claremont sometimes (45 min by car, 1hr by donkey), but probably not on the bike this winter. Summertime for sure. It would be super cool to see you out!

How is the clearance with the Kenda 760s? Do they rub the fenders at all?

The clearance is just fine, lots of room in there. I recently changed over from summer tires back to the trackmaster for winter, and I really did notice a difference in the ride. The trackmaster feels kinda squirrelly in comparison.

Are you still running the Kenda K760s? I’m looking for a pure off-road tire for the CT125

Day-yum! I’ve got a few 100k miles on bikes across our wonderful country, but all on pavement, and I only ski or go cager when it is snowing.
