The brand is Gold Plug and the model for the Trail is MP-01. Just Google Gold Plug. The best money you'll ever spend. Several forum members have posted links showing the kind of crud this little thing will catch.I have been reading of the importance of having a magnetic "gold" plug. But nobody has mentioned the size or manufacturer or the vendor.
I am picking mine up hopefully the first week in August and would like to put a magnetic plug in ASAP
See above comments. Gold plug MP-01I looked at Amazon and there are too many to choose from. One complaint said the magnet was too long and didn't look like the picture. I would like to get a new drain plug but I'm worried that the new one may be long and hurt the motor. Who has a good recommendation for which one will work correctly?
I rationalize that the crud the magnetic plug catches would eventually end up in the filter screen. But the screen is such a pain to get to, I think it will keep the screen open longer. And hey, it can't hurt any and a pretty small investment.A worried well issue?
If I had to guess I would bet on friction and a tight fit. If you make the magnet a hair too big for the hole, put in liquid nitrogen and insert it before it warms back up it ain't going anywhereDigging this thread back from the deep.
Anyone know what method is employed to keep the magnet fastened to the Gold Plug? Simply counting on the grade of stainless and the magnet being attracted to it? I saw someone mention another brand and the magnet coming off and it got me thinking about it. I did look on Gold Plugs website but didn't see any info there.
Yes, the 2023 (JA65) drain plug is the same 12x1.5 thread size.I will ask rather than assume that drain plug for 2023 model is same as prior years? It’s not listed on gold plug site. Thanks
