Thank you for that information. I need to keep the rear carrier because I need to bring fuel with me. I am keeping the stock tires for now. I was at the local Honda dealer yesterday and talking to one of the guys who also owns a '23. He suggested I tooth down but I'm sticking to stock for now.

The Garmin Montana weighs over 1lb. I don't strictly need it for navigation as I know the route (in its current form) pretty well but I am also using it for avg speed and the satellite messaging amongst other things.

I would imagine the CT90 on the list had a support/chase vehicle. I'll be solo. More extreme measures may need to be made depending on how the shakedown run goes. I don't exactly live in an area known for being flat and level. (Edit: not taking anything away from the person who accomplished it on the 90. I initially planned on having a support vehicle but circumstances did not allow it. Once you get to this level of obsurdity, you do what you have to)

I won't be submitting for any certifications. I'll know I did it (or didn't do it). I am prioritizing whatever non-riding time I may have to camera maintenance instead of taking pictures of receipts and all the other stuff required for certification. I'm hoping I can make a moderately entertaining video out of it.
I'm off work for the month of April (long story) but am signed-up for an on-line class on 4/8-4/9 otherwise I'd volunteer to be your support vehicle. If your dates change, let me know and good luck!

In terms of route, I mocked up your route using RideWithGPS and took a look. If that was a bet if I could ride that in 24h I would not take that bet. The climb out of Death Valley and the rolling hills killing my average speed would be too much. It'd be a damn fun ride though, and if not for work changing the conditions from the 2014 rules under which I could claim a "charity ride" (where they make donations on my behalf), I would absolutely do that as a charity ride.

The attempt is a stretch.

Best case scenario, it will be very close. I won't hit any grades steeper than the road up to my town (~6%) and I averaged 39.4 in 3rd gear. That recording will be published this weekend. The only difference is I will be 20-30lbs heavier on the actual trip.

This is the GPS-tracked run up the 5.8% grade to my town without the extra fuel and supplies at full throttle in 3rd gear (stock gearing). Not really entertaining YouTube content but it isn't intended to be.

If I can drop the 20lbs of extra holiday cookies my body is currently carrying around before the attempt, steep climbs should be about the same performance.

The first hiccup has occurred and the trip hasn’t even started yet. The road I need to take to get to the starting point is closed. Working on alternate routes. I am supposed to do shakedown next weekend and this road closure adds over an hour of riding to get to the starting line.

Today is Friday and the 400-mile shakedown run is supposed to be Sunday. I’ve been super busy and haven’t had a lot of time for prep so tomorrow is going to be busy. Not to mention, my honeydo list is growing by the minute.

Well, I rode 458 miles on Sunday. I sustained a severely bent foot brake lever and broke my hand controls in the last 5 miles taking a 'shortcut' home up a steep and severely degraded jeep trail in the dark. So Booger is down for repairs. Hopefully I don't discover other damage when I dig in.

Mileage-wise, I averaged 75.5mpg with the lowest being 61.4 in the 73.8 miles from Stovepipe Wells to Trona and the highest from Adelanto to Stovepipe wells (86). I must have had a tailwind on the way to Death Valley. I forgot about the strong prevailing winds that play a factor in addition to the elevation changes.

The attempt for the 8th is probably postponed. My average speed was only 41.8mph which isn't going to cut it. I had nearly 40 minutes of downtime in 330 miles because of disorganization on my part and half of the pumps at Stovepipe Wells being out of commission requiring me to wait in line.

I have a 13T sprocket I am going to throw on and try on another trip to see if it affects mileage. As it is now, my route fuel stops aren't sufficient for the realized fuel mileage.

Wow, low mileage? My lowest ever was 120 mpg. I knew it would be a tough one to do 1000 mi/24 hr. I think with the right roads and frame of mind it could be done on the trail. I hope you still try, I love adventures like that. I just talked to an apholsterer and he is going to reconfigure my seat for a little more comfort.

The 4th installment of my blog about the attempt has been published. No new information from what was posted here, really.

I will not be attempting the 1k on the 8th. That date has been repurposed to drive my car 1200 miles to Seattle to take my daughter a giant wooden trunk/table thing that I want out of my living room.

It is still happening, just not on the 8th.

I've been following along so the end result was already known to me before reading the latest blog. I do appreciate the sense of adventure and for taking us along with you- thank you!

I am trying to figure out how/why the front brake lever is tied to a RAM mount though?
