As a reminder I am the guy who accidentally over torqued a Gold Plug magnetic plug onto the bottom of my 17 mile '23 and it came back to bite me at a 300 mile oil change with stripped threads: https://hondatrail125.com/index.php?threads/ugh-horrible-screw-up-stripped-oil-drain.2538/
So after lots of different suggestions by friends, family and some of you on here I opted to drill the stripped 12mm hole out to a 14mm and re-tap it. This of course meant I needed a 14mm plug so it was off to Gold Plug I went again. As part of this re-tap process I removed the right side case cover, this is where my troubles compounded. I was following a Youtuber's advice and I removed the lock washer for the clutch adjustment bolt along with all of the case bolts. I also left the bike standing up when I removed the case. Yep, you guessed it- when I removed the case a bunch of clutch parts (clutch lever, lifter plate, lifter cam and ball bearing retainer) all fell free. I had never seen the inside of these little engines before and I initially did not even know how these parts related to one another. Through a little web searching I did find some schematics and the relationship of all these parts to one another started making sense. As I put everything together though the adjustment bolt was tight and I could barely move it when I put the case cover back on. Out of curiosity I clicked the shifter from neutral to first and I heard an unusual clicking pop sound coming from the inside the case. I took the case back off and found the clutch lever had not been seated properly into its fitting in the case and it was now slightly disfigured where it was suppose to fit into the case. At this point I knew I was going to have to head off to the shop. Looking back I think I would have been much better off to have left the adjustment bolt locked in place the first time I removed the case cover AND to lay the bike on its side (again, this was a first attempt for me and I learned a lot after the fact).
I got the bike back from the shop today and it is running and shifting great. I am glad to have it back home and be back out on the roads with it!
Lots of lessons learned on this one!
