That seems slow, depending on your size. As I said in a previous tread, I'm 160 pounds right out of the shower and I've had my LRD up to 60 mph (GPS confirmed) on a long, level straight-away on several occasions. Of course, that's as long as there's no head wind. It will do 55 mph without a problem, but as soon as you even think 'hill' it will slow down.

Max 51 GPS for me. Guess it’s a blend of weight, fuel type and tyre profile - but yes, the engine will free up a bit with mileage

before i (160lbs) did mods i was able to get 52 (non GPS) tucked but always ran out of flat road. It was still slowly climbing but i doubt i would squeeze out much more.

I would let it break in a little more but also manage your expectations.

don't expect much over time improving when its stock, i was never really able to get over 52-54 w out it being dead calm and dead flat, maybe. usually was at 46-48 myself for most of it. I know, lame. hence why i did some performance improvements.

Mine will go 55, sea level flat ground I'm 160 PSW. It will hold 45 with ease when going over overpasses. It might go faster if pushed on a long run but I don't like to wring the life out of it. I like to keep it under 50 usually 45 if I'm not holding up traffic. To me its a 45 MPH machine.

well, for those of us that commute on public roads on them primarily, yeah, its a relatively slow turd stock that honda could have rectified easily with a different ecm tune. thats all it would have taken.

I've got Shinko 241s on mine. They didn't seem to slow me down by more than 1 mph over the stock tires.

I'm pretty sure the point of this post wasn't how slow somebody can or does ride on, but why it has a hard time hitting 50+. If i rode around at 20 mph id get run over by traffic.

What are the variables? If he is a heavy rider at a high elevation the little bike may not be able to reach 55?

stock 1st gen groms could do 62 with me on it stock and im 200 lbs. the trails are tuned very anemically. that's the variable: the shit tune honda put into them vs basically everything else.

So for a heavier rider at altitude 50 or a bit less might be all the bike can deliver in stock configuration?

200 pounds isn't heavy. Think I'll throw 50 or 60 pounds on the bike and see what she does

honestly, the big holdback for me on the trail is wind resistance. tuck down and you get + 3-4 mph. lol.

by comparison, my 100cc 2 stroke twin (YL1E) will do 58 with me on it, stock, my 120cc (C2TR) single will do 60 w me on it. they are all comparable weight & HP (10 and under), all 4 speed, but the other 2 are also 56 years old with, believe it or not, the same mileage (within 1000) of the trail at this point. and my c2tr actually has a dual range rear sprocket. My advice: go vintage. lol. :ROFLMAO: (kidding)

To add more info I live in Florida beach side so it's flat. Weight is 180 ready to ride, has great pick up very lite front end when going over rough roads, just thought a125 would be faster at least sixty so I could ride in 45-50 mile zone without holding up traffic. I guess I have to choose my roads wisely. Any suggestions on helping front end performance?

It seems to me that when all is said and done, if you average it all out, the top speed of these bikes is 50 mph.
