Throttle tension makes for hurky jurky 1st gear trail riding.

This is my second 2022 Honda. I have CB300R and my new Trail 125. Both of them suffer from the same lack of tension on the throttle. It makes for an unplesant hurky jurky motion in first gear on both bikes. All my other bikes require more energy to twist the throttle. These Honda's feel like there is no friction on the throttle at all. Anyone else feel this? Anyone else have a solution?

It took me some getting used to after riding a Ducati with a heavy throttle return. First make sure that your throttle slack is good and you don't have too much free play before the bike revs, you can adjust this with the nuts on the cables near the throttle. If you have too much slack it's going to be an awkward jump to throttle engagement. For low speed riding you can tame the jerky 1st gear with use of the rear brake. There are aftermarket throttle tubes you could look into, but most of them are quick turn ones giving the opposite of what you desire, they make the throttle even more sensitive.

Thanks. Just put the bike away for the night. Going to check for free play tomorrow.

I also mentioned that these bikes seem to come from the factory with a lot of freeplay. Spec is 2mm at the flange, mine is way over that. It does make it harder to control with 1st gear using throttle alone.

The other thing to keep an eye on is chain tension. Mine's a little on the loose side right now and I noticed that makes it harder to ride smoothly in 1st.
