Who here is running the Takegawa big brake setup?

I didn't see it on the Takegawa setup so might not be a problem there, but the Evatek one warns against using it in combination with metal sintered pads. Having had nothing but poor experiences with overly sensitive "resin-only" rotors on bicycles, that was enough for me to lose interest in the Evatek semi-floating big rotor big setup. Now that the bike's been out for a few years maybe some better options will pop up.

tried it with both. it just sucks. i firmly believe its warping under load, the inner 'spokes' of the rotor are too long and thin IMHO and its flexing, it def got worse the higher speed i was at stopping. low speeds like 10-15mph was fine.

I got the Takegawa BIg Brake kit from Webike. I’m a huge fan of braking power. After fitted, immediately found the rotor caused drastic pulsing. Front wheel shuddering was unpleasant. The rotor wasn’t flat. The uneven wear, even after >10 miles, was noticeable on the rotor. Working with Webike for a return/replacement currently.
Update on my return/replace situation…
Webike has been great. I wish the response from Takegawa was as impressive:

From Webike customer support:

We apologize for the delay in contacting you.
We received the following response from the manufacturer.
*****************************************************************************
First, I checked the image you sent me, and the range of numerical values in the image is within the standard range, so there is no problem.
In addition, we had another customer who owns the same product (same production lot) inspect it, and the result of the inspection was that there was no problem with the product itself, and no abnormalities were found.
However, regarding the content that we have received from our customers, we are told that due to the characteristics of the product, the braking force has been significantly improved compared to the normal product, so it is expected that some vibration will occur.
The ABS system is more likely to intervene when the brakes are applied strongly, so it is possible that this may be a factor. (If off-road tires are installed, ABS device intervention during braking seems to occur particularly frequently.)
This may not be a satisfactory answer, but I will give it to you.
In addition, if you experience any problems or feel it is dangerous, we recommend that you stop using it.
*****************************************************************************
This is the answer from the manufacturer.

So, according to Takegawa, vibration is just part of performance.

Anyway, Webike is accepting a return for refund, so kudos to them. It is absolutely appreciated.

As an interesting alternate solution, (if you are comfortable doing the modification! If not, please disregard!) Also, obviously, you need to have the “oversize” caliper bracket. I found that the “oversize“ rotor (270mm) for a Kawasaki KX250f/450f will get the job done with a slight modification. The mounting holes are ~9mm in dia but we need 10mm. The loss needs to be on the interior part of the hole (closest to the axle). I ground out the holes (it is a pretty small amount) and have mounted the rotor. Smooth as a baby’s butt! And, as a bonus, the rotor cost me $38 on eBay. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1943470306...1wZZi_uTHa&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Thanks for sharing your findings on a replacement rotor. FWIW - I installed EBC organic pads and much of the "pulsating" went away, still a bit but much improved.

As an update, had a 50+ mile ride today and the oversize Kawi disk is lovely! No issues at all. For the record, I did put in EBC HH pads with this disk. Wasn’t a requirement, but did it and to record the combo.

I put mine on last night, drilled the holes to 10mm on the drill press, and chamfered the holes to prevent any cracking. went right on, and yes, you are right, it works great. did a 15 mile testride, immediately better than the takegawa rotor. im also running the ebc pads, its a very good setup indeed. thanks again! I have to ask, how did you figure out that one will work?

I just started searching 260, 265, and 270mm rotors and looked for a 4-bolt mount that seemed close to the 125mm dia centers I’d need. When one looked good, I’d find the biggest pic I could of it and measured it, calculating the scale of the known measurement (outer dia).
The Kawi looked VERY close, and I figured for $38 I’d give it a shot.
If it wasn’t obvious, I’d m retired and have WAY too much time on my hands!

To paraphrase G19Tony, I like big (well performing) brakes and I cannot lie! The Takegawa experience did not impress me.
