  • Trail125 receives engine updates for 2023 model year
  • Also returning: Ruckus, Metropolitan and Montesa Cota
In an announcement today, American Honda confirmed the return of a number of two-wheel products for model-years 2023 and 2024. A diverse range of categories is represented, highlighting Honda’s commitment to producing high-quality machines for casual riders, nostalgia-driven customers and niche-focused enthusiasts.
Honda’s retro-inspired Trail125 receives updates to its engine package and a new color for 2023. The efficiency-focused advancements align the popular model with its miniMOTO relatives, especially the Super Cub. Returning for the 2024 model year, the iconic Ruckus and classic Metropolitan scooters continue to provide approachable and practical urban transportation. On the trials front, the two Montesa Cota 4RT models are back for 2023, following another incredible season of FIM World Trials competition in which Repsol Honda’s Toni Bou captured his record 32nd world title (16 indoor, 16 outdoor).
“Each of these models has a rich history and a loyal following, so we’re pleased to continue offering them for our customers,” said Brandon Wilson, American Honda Manager of Sports & Experiential. “From the affordable and user-friendly Trail125, Ruckus and Metropolitan to the highly specialized Montesa Cota 4RT models, Honda takes great pride in serving all types of two-wheel enthusiasts, regardless of how they choose to pursue their particular adventure.”
Trail125
Honda’s Trail125 is proof that classics never go out of style. Inspired by the original Honda CT models of the 1960s, the model has an authentic, vintage look, evoking the “You Meet the Nicest People On a Honda” ethos for which the brand has always been known. Hidden behind its classic aesthetic is state-of-the-art technology that enables confidence-inspiring performance and modern riding comfort. As the rugged cousin of the Super Cub, the Trail125 is well-suited for everything from urban adventures to casual off-road treks. Approachable, fun and versatile, this nostalgic miniMOTO delivers on all fronts.
  • MSRP: $3,999
  • Color: Pearl Organic Green
  • Available: April

I was about to bite the bullet and buy a slightly used one after wanting to get it for awhile but now that we have the green color in the states I think I'll wait to get that one!

I wonder when they will get here. I wonder how many will come. Mostly I wonder how they name the color. ;)

Wow, Pearl Organic Green! I'm okay with my red one, but the green is so cool.

I though the ground clearance was increased to 7.0 in but they still list it at 6.5 in on the website
When I click the specs page, it brings me to 2022 specs rather than 2023. Maybe they haven't fully updated their site.

7.0 in was probably a typo in my other post. 2021-2022 list 6.5" in the owner's manual, the 2023 owner's manual lists 6.7". You're right that they only list 6.5" on the website right now though.

I had reached out to several dealers months ago and they wouldn't entertain taking deposits on 2023s but they are taking them now. I'm 2nd on the list at a 'local' powerhouse dealer. I would be 5th at another dealer I had contacted today.

I told the lady at the dealership, if they import a different color, call me, guess I will find out if she remembered.

A dealership owner told me yesterday he will know when the bikes might be available on the first Monday in May. That is when he will take my down payment, he ain’t accepting a dp until then. I told him I would make a dp as soon as he allowed. I want on the wait list somewhere real close to the top. It will be interesting to see which member from what state gets the first 2023.

I feel fortunate that I was able to find a 2022. Avoiding the politics behind the trend to "despise all things gasoline" I would recommend anyone on the fence about one of these great bikes to purchase one sooner rather than later. Not sure how many more years we will have the opportunity even if the demand exists. I foresee these things becoming a real collector's item.

Yes, and they do hold their value.

I just had a thought. The announcement said they would start arriving at dealers in April. We all assumed they meant this April but it is almost May. Did they actually mean next April?

There are only two days left in April and I haven't heard anything about any dealers getting deliveries. I'm fairly confident that the hitch carrier I just ordered will arrive before I get a call from the dealer.

Was at my local Honda dealer yesterday for some CRF50 parts and their response to the April availability in the press release was "Yeah, we wish!" They have a waitlist and absolutely no estimated arrival date for the 2023 CT125s, they're just roughly expecting to start receiving them this summer in very limited quantities. Once they get them, Honda will not allocate more for them until they sell what they have. This was the same for my 2021 CT125. When the dealer called me to say they received it, they also asked me if I was for certain going to buy it and if they could mark it as "sold" so they could get back in the queue to get more of them. At that time the bikes were crated individually, later they started crating them in pairs so dealerships got 2 at a time.

Since I'm #2 on the list, let's hope they continue that trend.

It is strange, though. I don't know if it was just because 2021 was just up to its 2021 shenanigans or ADM keeping dealers from burning through their allocations but every dealer I know of has a waitlist. You'd think that would be a pretty easy sale. Deposits back then when I reached out to dealers was $200. It is $500 now, at least at the dealers I've talked to. I'd pay the full price as a deposit if it got me one sooner.

There was certainly a huge gap between the supply and demand, it's still there, but not as big anymore but will surely be highlighted by the new model year rolling out. I'm sure it would have been easy sales for most dealerships if they only could have gotten their hands on some inventory. Lots of shops were barely getting any new inventory in 2021 so they either went bust or changed up their business strategy to make up for it. A lot of buying used bikes and selling them, selling ebikes or merch, and a lot of price gouging on what inventory they did get. A Yamaha shop I bought a few bikes from (Rich's Yamaha in Lockport, IL) didn't get anything new from Yamaha for several months so they pivoted to mostly selling brands like CFMoto and SSR. I still have a Yamaha TTR125L bought from them almost two decades ago, so it's disappointing to me that their dealership floor is now full of products I consider to be of disposable cheap pit-bike quality. That's what they had to do to pay the bills 🤷‍♂️

I'm also of the opinion that the CT125's primary market is Japan, and for that reason all other markets have been getting less volume, less marketing, less accessories, etc. The earlier releases in Japan, the marketing, the accessories, and the used market inventory seem to support this theory.
