I’ve got a 22 trail. Hit a big pothole this morning bent my back rim bad front may not be as bad but would need to be trued up. Was thinking about aluminum rims or something since I was wanting bigger tires. Or just ordering the new assemblies from partzilla for 190 each. Any thoughts?
Thanks

Spoke wheels hold up to abuse better than aluminum. Aluminum wheels crack instead of bend or flex when stressed. Something to consider depending before making that change, the grass may look greener but there are weeds there too.;)

youre talking about aluminum hoops right, not cast wheels? If i had to replace mine that's the way i'd go for sure.

Yes I want 3.0 tires. Got a 143 kit on the way already got my efie and injector. Wanted to shed some weight but was wondering the cost and just the hoops themselves are expensive that are for the bike

you're going to offset any weight savings w the 3.0 tires but better than 3.0;s and steel. and, aluminum rims look so much better.

i went with knobbies but in the stock size. my local guy will doe a wheel for like 100-120 you supply all the parts. worth it to me, but my wife wanted a wheel building stand so she might be doing them from here out.

Yes I have been thinking about that myself. Don’t really know of anyone around here in north Alabama that does that

What kind of rims? I’ll have to do some digging on the bike shop scene ask around the Honda dealership

Some folks in Japan are running Excel rims on the CT125. That setup is the one that's tempted me the most, but I haven't done it yet.

If you don't have a wheel builder nearby or want to DIY, there are shops that do them by mail. Would be best to coordinate with them to have them order the parts to their shop so you're not double shipping items, and because they're likely to get better prices if they're an Excel dealer.

I have bought custom spokes from https://www.buchananspokes.com/ before. They are a full service wheel builder shop out of California that are popular among vintage American motorcycle riders. People all over the country have them build custom wheel configurations for them and ship them out.

I’m really surprised by all the love for 3.0s here. I’ve been running matching 2.5 Shinko’s front and rear and it has been great for gravel and off-road trails without the additional weight/width.

I dropped from a 17 inch rear rim to a 16 it’s only maybe a half inch taller for the front. And I have a 2.75 for the front. Just more rubber, I’m 5’ 10” and 220 pounds

people like fat tires on skinny rims for no good reason, across all motorcycles for some reason. go figure.

Xr100r. Ordered them from partzilla. Better quality than the eBay specials I ordered first.
