Well, I got the new injector installed and took a short spin, ~12 mile run. And it has changed quite a bit, despite it only being a few miles! For now, it's seems to be somewhat hesitant to go from a dead stop, but does not mind being near WOT with 70-95% throttle being roughly 45-50mph. WOT is still underwhelming, but it's a 125. The engine also runs a lot cooler, the throttle body and clutch cover not getting nearly as hot as with the stock injector (which was my primary cause for concern)! It does smell a bit rich while idle (no visible smoke), but as others have said that will change with time, so I'm not too worried about it for now. Will report later on... if the clouds will let me!
What was the part number on your new injector?

I am still trying to find the real data on different injectors. The PCX 150 is too rich and the stock trail is to lean. Need the one in between.

Well, after a few tests, the new injector is not that good. It runs too rich for the stock fuel map when open-loop and the closed loop has to constantly readjust itself after the bike has warmed up. There is noticeable power loss near WOT, and you can smell un-burnt fuel leaving the exhaust. I didn't check the sparkplug, but I am going to assume it was getting carbonized. If the #16450-K76-T61 '23 stock GROM injector is flowing at a minimum of 105cc/min, you probably want no more than 95cc/min flow rate if using a free-flowing exhaust and stock air filter.

Sucks I'm out $40...

Egads up in Canada that Grom injector sells for $180. That's why I did not want to buy it on a curiosity test whim. I paid $75 for the PCX150 and it is too rich. It is aledged to flow 140cc min. What I don't understand is the Grom injector is supposed to flow (105-115cc min) less than the PCX. Stock Trail injector is supposed to be 90 cc min. The three versions do not line up according to your field experience and mine. Mine should be flooding way worse than what you are exoericing. AFR has it at 10.9 -11.5 @ WOT approaching the 3/4 shift at 7000 rpm. The same situation was with stock inject it was reading 13.1-13.3 which is on the lean side of power mixture for sure. Ideal I was understanding is 12.5 full load. Maybe I got a lean PCX and you got a rich Grom version. Now how to test without throwing money down the perfect mixture money pit.

I need a boost in power without losing range or reliability. Might just go with a full exhaust to start but I need one with a spark arrestor.

I know others have had issues with a larger injector but I’ve installed PCX150 injectors (pn 16450-K0S-V01) in both of my Trails (‘23 and ‘24) with only an aftermarket air cleaner (DNA High Performance) and an EFIE set at 0.220V (wires reversed to enrich rather than force lean, as the EFIE was designed) and went from “anemic” to “almost normal”. I’m still going to play with the cams and cam timing to push the power curve (I had trouble saying that with a straight face) up in the revs a smidge.
I have been checking my plugs and they still look fine.
I‘m not after a dragster, just getting my wonderful little Trails off the “anemic” list. I have 1 road into Georgetown that is single-lane and a 1-2 mile section that went to 55 mph posted. With hills. And Texas wind, almost always. A strange goal, but that’s mine.
I know I could get exhausts, but I really don’t wanna. I don’t want folks to hear me, just smile when they see me. 😁

Smooth tires, tight tuck, loose some weight, take side roads that are 45 mph max.
XR150L has boost in power, bigger wheels, more compfortable seat, better suspension, is cheaper, is the bike the world uses.

aftermarket bolt in spark arrestors are available. reasonably well done bbks are very reliable, its when they are half-assed when they aren't reliable (like anything) else. my 143 is as reliable as a stock motor. but fueling, exhaust, intake were all addressed as well. Also, having an XR150 as well, IMHO, its def a better bike all around except for the slight loss of carrying capacity... maybe. The racks pretty decent on it but with a full passenger seat you can strap all sorts of shit down need be. I have a 200cc cyl on my xr and its really good as well, but was good stock.

Do you own anything you like (small displacement) that you haven't changed the engine on? Serious question, not sarcasm, though it is my specialty most of the time.

fair question. and yes actually, I do.

dead stock, but rebuilt, even original paint, 67 Kawasaki C2TR. (115cc or so)

dead stock, but also rebuilt (but now has elec ignition) 67 Yamaha YL1E. (100cc twin) Electric starter still functional, which was tricky adding a dyna. all orignal paint except a re-spray of the silver as it was badly scratched up.

and to some, a small bore bike, my 70 yamaha R5. (350) dead stock motor, nos tank w original paint on whole bike, etc. :

my 87 TZR250 (jdm 1KT model) is still stock, but again, rebuilt, in original paint, except the exhaust, and that's primarily because the stock pipes are impossible to find, so i saved them (I have a perfect set for it) and put on some aftermarket units that i'd be ok with getting scratched/dinged. I didn't even have to rejet for these.

they all get ridden reguarily. I've had the r5 since.. 2012 or so, the 67 kaw since 2013 ad the YL1E for about 2 years. the tzr has been around since 2022 . took me years to track one down.
