i just saw this, was in t he mts i guess when this was posted in May. I actually used a sheet of 6061 i had, drilled and countersunk the holes, and used them to screw into the factory holes. used m6 x..? 30 countersunk screws so they dont stick up. you can get the idea here:

this was when we went to the races last year, so i just used the 2 'back' rack bolts and rotated the mess 180 degrees so i could fit the pad for angie. I can take a better pic if you want, sorry it took so long for me to see this.

I used this wood crate from walmart. Note that it is actually about 9.5" tall. It may end up going on my Super Cub/passport eventually (or I may get another) but aside from my utter inability to get it stained or oiled, it's been meeting my requirements nicely. I also put a helmet lock on it.

It's held down by the 4 built in M6 holes, along with two U bolts at the front grabbing the metal bar. Combined, this mount is strong enough that I have no qualms about lifting and manhandling the bike with the handles on the crate.

Thanks for the replies. I did end up buying the bike, had to get one from out of state. All of the dealers here in Houston have a waiting list of several people, but are only expecting to get one Trail 125 this year. I also saw this You Tube video, with a guy using a Pelican case:

Hello,
Just wondered where you got those crash bars and what you had to pay for them? Thanks! Btw, I'm new on here and didn't know how to send a DM.

I’m gonna see if I can make this old aluminum usgi night vision case work. I picked it up for $20. Got the foam sleeping pad thrown in. That pad, slipped over that damn grab bar might work too and at least I’ll have something to get on to work on the bike if need be. This stuff will only be for longer trips, not a permanent set up. The box only weighs 5lbs or so (I haven’t weighed it). The top comes totally off and would make a nice basin to wash cookware, or a ho bath if need be, and maybe to put a few cold beers in ice at camp......View attachment 2292
Love the aluminum case, you seem like a guy that might have or will do some stealth camping with that rig.

I picked up this folding crate at a container store. Also attached a pillion seat to the forward end of the crate to avoid the hassle of having to swap the crate for the seat.

Had a milk crate lying around, slapped this on today (1st mod). I had some bolts that fit the factory holes in the rack but I didn't have any giant washers to use. All the washers I had were too small for the holes in the bottom of the crate and would't be able to hold it down.. I ended up just using some zip ties, 6 I believe. Seems pretty darn sturdy. Put a tool box liner down 1st and poked holes in that. Had a cargo net laying around. Will probably upgrade at some point. For now probably just put everything I need in a backpack (tools, wallet, etc.) and throw the backpack in the crate. Couple snips and I can have everything removed if needed. Party on

I used 4x 5/16 x 1 1/2" washers from Home Depot if you decide to try again.

I did so also and backed them up with a heavy duty zip tie on each corner, rock solid.

I found a suitable box, old ammo crate fits the rack well and the backrest pad is a nice addition . I’m Using the four M6 attachment points built into the rack.

I found a collapsible crate at Costco ("InstaCrate") and having a red top rim option knew I had to try it. Works pretty good mounted to the 4-6mx1.00 threaded holes in the stock rack with a garden kneeling pad between it and the rack to save the paint. It also allows me to keep my 30L moto bag mounted on top when it's not in use and able to hold it if I need the crate and have room or can be strapped on as a backpack if the full crate is needed.20230421_132501.jpg20230421_132659.jpg20230421_132830.jpg

Cool, you might want to also put heavy duty zip ties on the four corners. It should help lighten the stress on the crate at the attachment points as they are too close together for what they are being used for. They should put more screw holes, one at each corner IMHO.

I agree for sure. I actually use the compression straps that stay attached to the rack for the soft bag (that are around the lower front and rear of the crate in the picture) up over the top of the crate front and back when I've had a chance to use it which does a good job along with the pad underneath of holding it firm in front and back of the small footprint of the bolted area, and still has a little give for the bumps.

Upgraded my box! Thanks to all the posts here I got a box from Harbor Freight and made the holes using my leatherman’s awl. I can finally leave my jacket and helmet when running into a store.
Had a little trouble getting the left most screw in via the top so decided to just leave it from the bottom. I also got 2 different type of heads on purpose. Home Depot was out of the washer size I needed so set it up without but may add in the future.

I sold my fishing kayak a few years ago but kept this insulated bag I had bought with the kayak. It is built specifically to put a milk crate inside.
I decided to try it out today (just picked up the CT a couple of days ago).
This wouldn't be my first choice of color but I like the idea of having a hard walled case on back that can function as a cooler.
I think I'll flip it 180° so the rod holders are more conveniently located at the back although I don't think it would be too hard to put together a couple dowels and a pad that I could slide in as a backrest.
The mesh pockets on the sides are handy and the side opposite the rod holders are stitched with multiple screwdriver slots.
For my Canadian friends, I picked up my kayak at Cdn Tire so its likely that I picked up the bag there too. I don't remember.

Edit: I'm not sure if this link works but Cdn Tire still sells these. They are called "Shoreline Kayak Crate Bag"

That looks nice on the back rack and I like the pole holders, that would come in handy on my bike. Maybe toss it in with some yellow Rit dye and it would be a nice shade of green.

I wasn't aware these were a thing. Searching "Kayak crate bag" gives several options. Love their versatility.Screenshot_20230424-101100_Chrome.jpg Here's one that caught my eye right away due to the color scheme and on a decent sale at Amazon at the moment.

Thanks @CTExplorer. I never thought of looking at Amazon. They do indeed have a great selection that work for me.

That Plano Bag has an advantage over the others in that it slides inside the milk crate allowing you to drop the bag in or taking it out as you see fit.
With mine and others I would have to poke some holes in the insulated bag in order to bolt the crate down to the rack. As it sits now, I have to loosen the straps I'm using everytime I want to unzip the top cover.
Thanks again, I think I know what my next amazon purchase will be.
