If you have more than one bike Progressive is hard to beat. 11 motorcycles, 3 quads, 3 SxS, 1 snowmobile with them. Sometimes when you add a bike your cost goes down. So if you add a cheap bike they figure you ride the others less and drop your rate.
I'll have to look into that. I do get some pretty good discounts with State Farm since they insure pretty much everything I own plus my house (though I only carry insurance on two of my Quads). Never hurts to look around though.

$75 annually with Progressive. 71yo, clean record, western NY. An interesting side note: I discovered after my little spill that I have no medical coverage on the policy. To me, I had just had a little spill on the trail, similar to a bad fall while hiking. But to the authorities (medical and county sheriff), I had been involved in a one-person motor vehicle accident, even though it was a dirt road cutting through a state forest. The ER apparently reported my situation to the county sheriff, and while I was getting imaging done, a deputy came and spoke with my wife (I also had to call him later). This complicated the issue, because if I had had medical insurance on my policy, I would had to have made a claim, since the hospital and my doctor wanted to bill the insurance company first (I think this is a NY thing). Not having medical coverage on my policy meant everyone could just run my costs through Medicare and BC/BS. I haven't made a claim because the cost of the damage is about $70 and I have a $500 deductible on collision as it stands. I find all this ironically amusing and slightly perverse.

I find it the same way. If you had taken a spill on a public road it wouldn't have been unusual for the officer writing the report at the hospital to have also written you a ticket for "careless driving". Guilty until proven innocent.

I can probably find this story again with substantial effort but it's there's an old story from the Microsoft riding group. There was a software engineer that worked at Microsoft back in the late 00's named Bryan Lipscy, and he had a story he'd shared a few times in the past. The lead rider in the group rode over a pocketknife locked in the open position, it flicked up from their rear tire, embedded itself into his chest, and he instinctively pulled it out (resulting in blood everywhere). A parking lot made a timely appearance, he pulled over, put the kickstand down, got off the bike and collapsed on the ground applying pressure to the wound. The first two on scene were a retired EMT and Firefighter IIRC, helping keep him alive until emergency could cart him away.

One of the absolute sh*tf*ckery moments of him recounting this experience was WSP and the local Leo's having a hard time figuring out how to charge him with a ticket. He didn't lose control of the vehicle, he wasn't doing anything dangerous or illegal that they could prove, he didn't even park the bike somewhere it wasn't supposed to be, so eventually they settled on not being able to issue a ticket, but they sure AF tried.

I never forgot that story as a result, and he'd given permission to reshare it. I'd repost it quickly but apparently the last place I shared it has since closed down, and Bryan doesn't work at Microsoft anymore.

What can a guy with no speeding tickets, 60 years old expect to pay?

And which companies have the best coverage and prices?
Just over $200 bucks full coverage on 2021 Honda Trail,2022 KTM 390 ADV,liability on 1999 Suzuki DR 200,next mod project Progressive. It added about $90 bucks to add the KTM,and $12 bucks to add the DR 200.

That's unfortunate however I think most MC policies do not include Medical Coverage. In inquired about adding it a couple of years ago after my GF wrecked on my Honda Grom. As my agent put it, if I wanted to add medical coverage, I wouldn't be able to afford the policy.

I've not heard of the PD trying to assign blame after the fact. In my GF's case she was riding my Grom on the sidewalk in front of my house (mistakes were made) when she collided with a planter and ripped her left leg open (25 stitches). We called 911, Paramedics, FD were there and hauled her away. If the PD were there, I don't remember seeing them. They never contacted either of us for statements and at the Hospital we both explained to the Hospital staff that it was a MC accident. They billed her Medical Insurance (which isn't Medicare so maybe that makes a difference?)

I did get 'blacklisted' from my cities Paramedic program (a subscription service my city offers citizens where calls for Paramedic Services are capped at a certain amount) but was able to re-enroll a couple of years later. I also had to explain the incident during a background check (the check looked at calls for Emergency Services at my address).

Heal-up quickly and get back out there! You may also want to switch to a more agressive front tire as I've found that on loose surfaces the stock front tire really wants to 'wash-out'.

Thanks. That's the plan - new tires front and back. Just a matter of deciding which ones. Taking the time off to sort through the tires megathread. :)

I wonder why I wasn't cited for "leaving the scene of an accident."
