A News update for the USA

@vintagegarage 's speculations have been confirmed and American Honda announced the Honda Trail 125 is returning for the 2024 Model Year, in a color of Turmeric Yellow which has been seen on the Grom before. In terms of other changes, it seems that other than color it has the same specs as the 2023 JA65 model.

For 2024, Honda's lineup of versatile dual-sport models is as strong as ever. The top-selling CRF300L, CRF300LS, CRF300L Rally, XR650L and XR150L all return for the new model year, with the reliable, well-rounded performance that has fueled their popularity for years. Also boasting on- and off-road capability, the Trail125 continues to deliver a fun, approachable and nostalgic riding experience. Rounding out the announcement are the highly specialized Montesa Cota 4RT models, offering premium performance for trials riders of all skill levels.

Trail125
As a nod to the Trail 90 and Trail 110 of the 1960s, Honda's Trail125 embraces a timeless, classic aesthetic while maintaining the approachable, versatile nature of its predecessors. Its authentic vintage styling is contrasted by state-of-the-art fuel injection, an electric starter, disc brakes and front-wheel ABS—all of which promote a comfortable and confidence-inspiring ride. This nostalgic miniMOTO is also multitalented, with the ability to thrive in urban environments and venture past the pavement's end for casual off-road adventures.
  • Colors: Turmeric Yellow
  • MSRP: $4,099
  • Available: March
  • Info

MSRP increase from 2023's $3,999 to $4,099 and destination charge increase from $200 to $300.

I spoke with Honda Powersports customer relations as they have repeat specification errors copied over from the 2023 model. Their websites list a #420 chain on and an 80/91-17 rear tire, when the chain should be #428 and both tires should be 80/90-17 unless Honda are going with a lighter duty chain all of a sudden and pioneering a new tire size. They said they submitted the corrections for review, so maybe it will get fixed this time.

Another change I noticed is Honda Powersports removed the "Accessories" link from the 2024 Trail page. If you select the "2023" model it shows it again. Wonder if they'll be making any changes to the accessories as it's interesting they didn't just keep the 2023 accessories listed.
The latest Honda Motorcycle Accessories Catalog for the USA (2024) still just has the front carrier and center carrier listed for the Trail 125.

Edit: The accessories page is back, same two items under 2024 as 2023.

They corrected the chain specification for both the 2023 and 2024 to #428. Progress!
Tire spec is still wrong on the other page, but that's a different domain so they likely have to go up the ladder from Honda Powersports to get it fixed on the Honda News site.

Who knew changing a 1 to a 0 in software could be so hard?!

Honda removed the freight surcharges from motorcycles on their site. They were mentioned by the destination charge.

I wonder if this means they are actually dropping that surcharge, or if it is simply no longer being listed on the product pages.

When I bought mine it was a destination charge of $200 and a fuel surcharge of $100. They dropped the surcharge by rolling it into the destination charge.

That would make sense!
When they first updated the page for the 2024 it listed:

BASE MSRP: $4,099
Destination Charge: $300.00
Freight Surcharge: $100.00

So maybe leaving the freight surcharge there was a temporary mistake and it did just roll up into the destination charge.

Any idea why they won’t sell the OEM windshield for the Trail in the USA? I’d like to buy the official racks and windshield from my local dealer but if I need to go to Beezdeals for the windshield I might as well get everything else through them…

I think it just comes down to simply US Government overreach, or the US government bureaucrats doing their job, depending on your political persuasion. However, if you want to get the new OEM windshield, I think you will have to get it from a Canadian Honda dealer or from Webike. Here is the link to them on Webike:

I don't think Beezdeals would have it, as it isn't sold in the Cub Houses in Thailand. In Thailand and Australia, the official Honda OEM accessories are the H2C ones. Here an old page from the Honda of Australia web site:

Honda would have to validate that the windscreen meets US DOT standards and then apply for a DOT number to label the windscreen with. My guess is that they either know its material does not meet DOT standards, or they haven't seen the value in applying for a DOT number to label it with (if it's missing one). Honda have made enough motorcycle windscreens that they surely know how to make and label one that meets DOT standards if they wanted to.

Can anyone with the windscreen report if it has any markings? If it doesn't have a DOT label it's technically not street legal equipment for the USA, so it could be a liability for a dealer to sell it.

DOT-1045, which is the registration number for Sumitomo Bakelite Co. Purchased from Webike this past summer. Don't see any reason why they can't sell in the US.

Thanks. Seems like they probably could then, just choose not to for whatever reason just like many of the other accessories (and original equipment differences) that are available for Japan and Canada but not for the USA market.

Honda announced new OEM touring accessories for the Grom in Japan, including a windshield.

The mounting bracket is of course model specific, but looking at the measurements of the windshield it seems likely to be the same polycarbonate part as what's sold for the CT125.
Will be curious to see if the new Grom windshield makes it to the US market. Right now American Honda only have a motard/beak/angry-bird type front fender and graphics kits available for the latest Grom, so it's slim pickings in terms of OEM accessories even for the most popular of the USA market mini motos.

Ya know, while the Red and Green are cool, mine was green a 23, I still think if your going for nostalgia then certainly Yellow fits the ticket the best.
