Here in the northeast USA the dealers all got a supply of Trail 125's this past couple weeks. Larger volume dealers got two and smaller dealers got 1. I walked into my local dealer to inquire on my Kawasaki recall and saw the Trail 125 sitting there and no Sold sign on it. I ripped out my credit card to put a deposit and picked it up yesterday. The other local Honda dealers have them as I checked around on pricing. Thankfully my local dealer gave me the best price with no markup on the bike.

I did a 2400 round trip over a day and a half to pick one up south east of San Diego. I just got tired of waiting and hunting season is around the corner.
I know people that have deposits and almost a year later still no word. I've been on multiple call list since last November and haven't heard a word.

My local dealer still has a massive waiting list and is still refusing to take deposits, just like they did 2 years ago.

I just got tired of waiting. Calling every dealer through 7 states over 2 weeks and found a couple that had a bike or two, chose the one with less drive time and it was still a long drive.
Unless you are just willing to wait or lucky enough to call the hole in the wall dealer that is strictly first come first served, you are going to have to work for it.

I put in my dibs in at Action Honda in Hudson, Florida, for a 2023 one second after Honda USA announced the 2023 Honda Trail 125. I got the call yesterday and picked it up today. It was the only one they received so far. They don't take deposits. but they do keep a list of dibs and work through the list in the order the dibs were made..

I found a new Trail in Nevada, but the dealer would not sell it to me because I'm in California. He said Honda ships some Trails that are compliant with California emissions laws, and some that are not. He said they sometimes got bikes that are certified compliant with California emissions, but most of their CT125s are not California compliant. This leads to the CT125 being even more rare here in California, and higher dealer markups, because there is an even smaller supply.

Eventually I found one at a California dealership where they did not take reservations but sold them first-come-first-serve. After searching for for 6 months, I just got lucky.

The Powerhouse dealers in Florida seem to be getting about three 2023s each month and selling them within a day or two. The smaller multi-brand dealers are getting one at a time, and many or most have gotten and sold one each. The deliveries seem to be pretty regular, unlike in 2021, where a month or more would go by with no action.

Cycle Shack North in Conroe, TX north of Houston had a 2023 on the floor already sold Saturday the 15th. Said another would be coming in around the end of July. I made my claim and dropped the deposit. Called me on Tuesday the 18th and said it shipped from the California distribution center and would be here around the 25th, gave me the VIN. According to this dealer they are getting replacements 3 to 4 weeks after each is sold.

I expressed interest in the Trail 125 on 6-26-2023 using an online inquiry, the dealership called me back on 6-27 telling me I was on the waitlist. 6-30-2023 they called back to say one had arrived and did I want it? I ran out the door and drove 41 miles to the dealership. As I walked out with my paperwork, the guy who was #1 on the waitlist was sitting on the bike. He had told them he would think about it. Bad move! I'm betting he won't have to think about it next time. Tommy's Motorsports in Crossville, TN.

Your story is similar to mine. My dealer did not keep a waiting list. First come, first serve. But if I had waited, there were guys lined up to buy it.
I hope Honda can get more of these to the USA. I would love to see others riding the Trail. To this date, I've never seen one in person except for my own.

Congrats on getting one!

However I think the Dealer you spoke to in NV may have been mis-informed (or more likely didn't want to hassle with an out-of-state sale). My Trail was bought new in New Jersey, then brought to So.Cal. six months later by it's previous owner. When I bought mine 14 months ago, it was still registered and plated in New Jersey. There is a decal on (or near) the rear swingarm which states if the bike is CA compliant. My understanding is that Honda makes all of the Trail's CA compliant since a handful of states are now mandating CA-levels of Emissions compliance and it's easier not having to make 'special' bikes for certain states or regions. Mine had that decal so getting it registered in Ca was relatively easy (I had some issues related to the PO loosing the original Title and getting some really bad advice from a DMV Clerk at the Auto Club) which added to some additional registration headaches, but nothing related to Emissions, other then showing the Clerk who did the VIN verification that the decal was there no one really cared or asked about it.

All that said, it is a hassle, especially for new vehicles but is doable, if you find a dealer who is willing to put in the work. If I were a MC Dealer and I was faced with the prospect of a local no-drama sale on a ~$5,000 bike or having to deal with an out-of-state sale which will require arguably more paperwork and staff time, I'd only sell bikes locally too. I've brought other vehicles in from other states and there are always hoops to jump through, even when a vehicle is smog-exempt because of age. In my experience most car dealers are more willing to sell a car or truck out of state then MC dealers. Of course there are exceptions.

Probably holding up for a residence. Ran into the same thing in with a dealer in Wyoming, Nevada and just a bit more than half a dozen in Canada. Some seem to appreciate their fellow state, province, folks and treat them well, can't blame them and respect them for it.

Another dealer in Nevada, Michael’s Cycle in Carson City, just called to offer one to me. I had called him about 6 months ago. He has a waitlist he is working through and I’m sure he’ll have his bikes sold by the end of the day. But I was happy that he had remembered me. Maybe I’ll soon meet some nice people on a Honda Trail up here!

I was at Love Motorsports in Homosassa, Florida this afternoon picking up some parts. This is the dealership where I bought a 2023 Trail 125 a month ago. They just got in another one day before yesterday and it is still sitting in the showroom and nobody has dibs on it. I think deliveries are pretty regular now, Trail 125s shouldn't be scarce like they were back in 2021.

The company that had been importing CTs into the UK has now stopped. Apparently the stock they'd been able purchase in Thailand is no longer available to them, the information they were given was that any spare/surplus units are being diverted to Honda North America due to the huge demand for this little bike.
Your waiting list times may get a tiny bit shorter.

what did you pay in California and where did you get it? where was the dealer who told you this in nv? I just got back from the Carson dealer in nv and was quoted 6200. felt like an outrageous price, didn't bother haggling, and I'm a local. sales rep told me he called everyone on the waitlist and no one wanted them. they have 2 new ones available. sure they will sell but I doubt as fast as they want people to think.

$6200 is still cheaper then we could get them in the UK. That said the dealerships are clearly screwing customers.
Is lube included in the fees or is that an extra extra? 🤣
