Hey Bryan,

Thanks for the photos! Looks like they've matched the length pretty well.

Couple more days of snow melt and you'll be good to go - at least into the driveway.

After reading through this whole thread and as good as the Hammerhead looks and doing my cyphers, I'm just going to cut the back off! Seems the easiest and certainly the cheapest problem solver.

Search Rocky Mountain atv/mc. They have “tusk” clones of most all of the hammerhead products.

I purchased the Hammerhead 11-0112-10-10 + 20mm for the larger shoe size. The +20mm does not bring the shift tip forward any further than the OEM toe/heel shifter. I also found the knurled tip to be a little more painful to up-shift. After 10 miles of riding I reinstalled the OEM toe/heel.

My 2pennies from experience. After ordering the Tusk shifter for the CRF250L that some have recommended I went ahead and spent the $20 more for the Hammerhead 11-0199-10-10. Same experience as Misfitoy, the CRF shifter was so short that it made it awful to ride. The Hammerhead shifter is perfect.

Haven't installed it yet but here's a pic laying on the stock shifter, slowly closer to getting the bike out to work on
Just a heads up as some time has gone by, and some little green donkey's have crept into the area... this is a cut/paste from HDMoto.com

I got my 2024 Trail today and would really like to change the shift lever. Does anyone have a source? As popular as this bike is, surely someone is going to step up. Cheers

As popular as it would seem, the real numbers in the US are actually pretty small in terms of production, which is why onshore support for accessories is so horrible. The only reason the JA55’s have shifters available is that shaft/shape is the same as other more poplar motorcycles. I’m about to cut mine off, as part of other mods to be able to remove the front sprocket cover with minimal disassembly of the bike. I’ve had mine since December, and am approaching 1,000 miles. My only advice is don’t be overly hasty, in the end it’s not in the way really, and I do use mine exclusively for putting the bike in first gear when I start off on a ride then never use it again for the most part. But I’m a sprocket swapper, and if I can’t work around it, it’s gone.

Interesting. I guess I'll end up cutting it off also. I never cared for heel-toe shifters. The heel lever always seemed to get in the way. Cheers

I just got a used 2022 and even though I move the shifter one notch on the shaft, I need a bit more. Going 2 notches would have me shift up and back, but I noticed it would be easy to space the footpeg assembly down 1/4 or 3/8 in with spacers, going to get some spacer material...

.. id also recommend a shifter support bracket/bearing from HR. it def helps. that shift shaft is absurdly long.
Next oil change I'm going to cut the heel shifter off & add the black sealed support bracket.
You're right about the shift-shaft it looks like it could be easily damaged by a solid hit on the shifter. A costly repair .

Someone has a thread on using a Yamaha 650 shifter as it has the same spline pattern. So I decided to try one. They have a "Bigfoot" model which is extended if you have larger feet (I wear a 11 1/2 boot). I put a Bigfoot on my Trail the other day and it seems to work well. You can order them from Yamahaxs650.com. They also have a regular length shifter. There like $27 ship. Hopefully there is a pic attached of my bike with this shifter. I thought that I might have to bend it a bit to clear the engine case, but if you move it out all the way flush with the end of the shifter splines in clears the case by about 3-4mm.

**I have a 2022**

^ Note that it's fit to a JA55 (2021-2022), so isn't a guaranteed fit on the JA65 (2023-2024). The JA65 has a different engine and the placement of things is slightly changed. I tried mounting a JA65 shifter to a JA55 and it didn't fit. It went onto the shift shaft but couldn't move because the "step bar" that the footpegs attach to was in the way.
